This is the second in a series of posts in which I share some of my favorite podcasts for business owners.  Part one can be found HERE

As a business attorney who works with Arizona businesses at all levels, from brand-new startups to established enterprises, I’m familiar with the questions and challenges that business owners face. I also know how valuable and inspirational it can be to hear some of the world’s most savvy business experts provide the benefit of their tips, experiences, and insights for dealing with some of the most common issues faced by today’s businesses. In this post, I’d like to introduce you to a podcast which may indeed need no introduction: The Corner Office, presented by Marketplace.

The first time you visit Marketplace.org, you may feel as if you’ve stumbled onto a genuine treasure trove of information. Its self-described mission is “to raise the economic intelligence of the country,” which it does through its range of e-newsletters and online podcasts. The Corner Office podcast series focuses on enlightening interviews aimed at giving C-level executives fresh success ideas and perspectives based on the latest trends and techniques. Some of these trends involve utilizing people and resources from other countries to expand the business both nationally and internationally. This approach allows a business to work beyond a typical 8-to-5 format where essential productive work is being performed in time zones throughout the world. Host Aimee Engelman shares the microphone with a variety of business owners, CMOs and other experienced luminaries. The podcast’s focus is interviewing executives, and small businesses may not need to expand their work time and employee base, although examining how innovative ideas are developed, from initial idea to practical application, can enlighten any business seeking to transcend the status quo.  A few representative examples of Corner Office episodes include:

CFO Spills the Beans: ROI for Outsourcing Offshore — In this illuminating conversation, CFO and qualified CPA Katrina Tocco dispenses advice for CFOS or financial managers who seek to outsource key financial tasks offshore.  Tocco touches on her own experience in offshore accounting (to the Philippines), cloud accounting, offshore bank account management/security, and how to measure ROI and KPI when offshoring financial functions.

The CMO’s Secret Weapon — CMO Chris Melotti chats with Engelman about some practices for establishing, maintaining, and making full use of offshore marketing teams. Melotti discusses issues such as handling change management, redistributing marketing tasks in accordance with your offshore outsourcing setup, and advice for reducing attrition and increasing job satisfaction.

The CEO With a 100% Offshore Team — Believe it or not, it’s quite possible to run a successful business with an entire team working at a great distance from the business’s base of operations. CEO Charles McKay has done it himself, with 100% of his team working from either India or South Africa. In this podcast, McKay talks about the benefits of drawing on the talent pools from these two countries, as well as essential issues such as initial setup, cultural differences, working across multiple time zones, and online tools and software that can help you grow and thrive with an all-offshore team.

Nailing the Niche Play With Offshoring — Narrow niche markets can be highly competitive, requiring business owners and C-level leaders to find new and innovative ways to stay “lean and mean.” Chris Green has found offshoring immensely helpful as his efforts to maintain an edge for his two niche organizations. Green discusses the ups and downs of both business process offshoring (BPO) and outsourcing to offshore freelancers. He covers points such as how offshore talent can support your niche, how freelancers in specific countries can differ, and choosing the right offshore model for your needs.
