One of the most important aspects of my work as an Arizona business attorney is my ability to recognize and respond to key issues that affect entrepreneurs and other business owners. In addition to my legal services, I want to provide my clients with whatever other useful information comes my way in my own journey as a business owner. That’s why I’ve been posting my recommendations for business-related podcasts that I have found helpful, illuminating and inspiring. In this point, I would like to turn your attention to The School of Greatness podcast hosted by Lewis Howes.
If you’ve heard the name of Lewis Howes before, you may also be familiar with The School of Greatness — not the podcast, but the New York Times bestselling book of the same title. Howes has an amazing story to tell, from traumatic childhood experiences and poverty to a professional football career and his current position on the USA Men’s National Handball Team, business coach, speaker, and lifestyle entrepreneur. As a frequent talk show guest, he was also recognized by the Obama administration as one of the nation’s top 100 entrepreneurs under 30. Howes got where he is by asking some of the world’s greatest luminaries in their fields about the habits and tools they used to achieve their own successes. He frequently points out common threads in each individual’s personal experiences and triumphs to illustrate the reasons for his or her success. His School of Greatness podcast takes this same approach. You’ll hear some remarkably insightful interviews, including:
Building a Hospitality and Wellness Empire with Eugene Remm — Eugene Remm of Catch Hospitality Group has built such a strong presence in New York that he has been called one of “New Kings of New York Hospitality” by Forbes Magazine. In this conversation with Howes, Remm discusses learning how to help others and become a team player helped him go from early failures to his current success. He also touches on subjects such as attracting investors, managing 1,000 employees, accountability, and dealing with trends.
Cultivate the Right Culture — Telling your company’s story is an essential part of building your corporate culture. Howes explores this subject with Bryan Johnson, founder of Braintree (which was purchased by PayPal for $800 million), Kernel, and OS Fund. Johnson explains how he used storytelling, town hall meetings, and other techniques to shape the narrative of his ideal corporate culture. If you have been looking for ways to create or remodel your own work culture, this podcast episode is for you.
Mark Sisson: Building a $200 Million Dollar Personal Brand — Sometimes a brand defines a large organization, and sometimes it defines an individual. The ability to build a personal brand is a key skill for many entrepreneurs. Mark Sisson has that skill — and he’s willing to share it with Hoewes’ audience. Sisson is the founder of Primal Nutrition, LLC, and Primal Kitchen, LLC, as well as publishing the top-ranked blog in the health and wellness industry, MarksDailyApple.com. He discusses his professional origins, the basics of building a personal brand, how to choose the right time to support that brand, how to respond to competitors, and more.
