If you’ve been following this blog, you know that I’ve recently posted some of my favorite podcasts aimed at business owners, C-level executives and entrepreneurs. I’ve found these podcasts fascinating, compelling, and encouraging as I operate my own Arizona business law practice, and I want to share these discoveries with my clients and other professionals. On this fifth excursion into the world of business podcasts, allow me to introduce you to The Tim Ferriss Show.
Tim Ferriss is far more than just an astonishingly successful early-stage technology investor; he has also been anointed as “this generation’s self-help guru” by none other than The New Yorker. He may be most widely known to the general public as a New York Times bestselling author many times over. His magnum opus, which explains the efficiency of prioritizing elements that lead to success, may be The 4-Hour Workweek — a primer for helping business owners achieve greater results with less time and effort. (He has followed that success with The 4-Hour Body and the 4-Hour Chef.) Fortune named him one of their “40 Under 40,” while Forbes Magazine includes him among its “Names You Need to Know.” The Tim Ferriss Show has enjoyed similar acclaim, with over 6,000 5-star reviews for listeners and over 400 million downloads. Here are a few examples of what you can expect when you tune into this podcast:
Neil deGrasse Tyson: How to Dream Big, Think Scientifically, and Get More Done — Neil deGrasse Tyson is one of America’s most famous scientific spokespeople. the astrophysicist holds 21 honorary degrees, has served both on Presidential commissions and as an adviser to the Department of Defense, and has authored a number of popular books. in this interview, Tyson discusses some of the big questions that entrepreneurs and innovators mus tackle for themselves, from moral and leadership questions to problem-solving skills.
Ken Burns: A Master Filmmaker on Creative Process, the Long Game, and the Noumenal — Ken Burns’ body of work has made him the dean of the American historical documentary, covering subjects ranging from baseball, Prohibition, and the Roosevelts to his most famous achievement, The Civil War. Burns sits down with Ferriss to talk about how he overcomes bouts of depression and anxiety, the value of loving what you do, his personal philosophy, and his work as an “emotional archaeologist.”
Eric Schmidt: Lessons From a Trillion-Dollar Coach — Eric Schmidt has a number of irons in the fire — perhaps most famously, in his work as Technical Advisor to Alphabet Inc. Schmidt also sits on the board of this massive conglomerate of life sciences, health, venture capital and other businesses, including Google Inc. He is also known for his efforts as a philanthropist, and as the founder of the emerging-technology company Schmidt Futures. Schmidt has based much of his philosophy and practices on the lessons he learned from his mentor, Bill Campbell — the “Trillion-Dollar Coach” of this podcast episode’s title. In this episode, he discusses these insights as well as his many experiences with Google.
